Musically Inclined Turbans

There was a time when there were numerous beturbaned musicians in the American music mainstream. I get the feeling turbans in current American pop music would irk many a 'freedom fry' eater. Probably won't be seeing any on American Idol. Anyhoo - getting back on track.... peruse this list and relive some memories:

Pay particular attention to Dr. Lonnie Smith. At a gig I heard him introduced as "The Turbanator". He's no hippocratic Dr. - it's his musical doctoring skills that got him the title. With trusty Hammond organ apparatus and dual Leslie accoutrement: doctoring indeed.

It was at this recent performance/religous experience that I became enlightened: Music is not the stuff that comes out of the instruments as the musicians perform. It is the thing that walks into the room during the performance, lights up a cigarette and tries to make itself comfortable. During a performance, this happens with varying degrees of success. Sometimes it never makes it into the room, other times it hangs around the shadows in the back, or maybe sits in the front row. If he's anywhere you can see it, you're in for a treat.

When the Dr. plays, Music is always front and center.

There's an MP3 clip here:http://www.drlonniesmith.com/ for "Norleans".
Spec it out.

And there were a few times where it walked into the basment on Mindy and whacked us in the head with a shovel.

Oh how I miss those lone stars and the He-Honk of the Gorilla My-T-Tone 108

(The rest of you have no idea what I'm talking about! HA HA HA!)

The Music Scene on LI is becoming more and more of a dissapearing act, there is nowhere for bands to play and more politics are shutting those places down.
    What sad times are these.
