SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE

existential dread, subjective media and news reviews and opinionated but not necessarily well-informed commentary.

I have stated earlier that I am a fan of the early 70's band The Faces, which is a more complex devotion to maintain than to a band like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. The problem is simple, it is Rod Stewart.

Rod was the lead singer of this great band, Ronnie Wood (later of the Rolling Stones) was also in the band where the two brought the rooster shag 'doo to the forefront and were directly responsible for the Heavy Metal look of the 1980's. They rocked hard and mellow, their best-known song and only U.S. hit being "Stay With Me". The band also had the late Ronnie Lane on bass and vocals, Ian McLagan on keyboards and Kenny Jones on drums (later joining the Who).
Rod went on to pursue a solo career of greater reknown, though still using most of the Faces as his backing band on such hits as "Maggie May" and "Every Picture Tells a Story". I liked Rod's solo stuff up until that blasted hit song with the word "Sexy" in it. Around this time the Urban Legend about Rod, regarding his copious oral intake of semen and loss of conciousness as a result. Now I would have no idea, and I only ask in order to question the validity of the rumor but where can one obtain a gallon of nut in one place? Does the ingestion of aforementioned fluid cause one to pass out? What is the average threshold before one loses conciousness? I don't think that I want to know. Jimmy3000 definitely can answer this...

Rod Stewart has recently reinvented himself a crooner of standards from the era before my parents were born. I cannot explain the well of old, over-done crusty traditional songs that he draws from with such an impressive original back catalogue of his own... The release of his American Standards Vol. 1 and 2 confirms that the above Urban Legend must have been truth.
